Isaiah 58:10-11
If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.
Many times throughout the Christian life we may find ourselves in dark pits and feel as if there is no way out. No matter what the cicumstance, trial, trouble, or woe...we not only have spiritual weapons (the Word and prayer) to deliver our souls...but these verses in Isaiah describe a very practical way to find joy again: invest in the lives of others and "your gloom (will) be as the noonday." Even if we don't feel we have anything to give...the Christian always has something to give-- Christ Jesus. Pray that God will give you the will to get up out of bed and help someone today. He will give us the grace and power we need to do it. All we have to do is ask with a genuine and willing heart. He will never deny anything good from those who love him, and it is surely good to care for others.
