Cuteness Defined

Ok, maybe I am slightly biased, but I just thought this video was so darn cute-- I had to post it. Greenlee and I were "chatting" over lunch so I started recording. I wanted her to keep saying "Mama" but instead she wanted to talk about "Ba Pop" (my dad-- all the grandkids call him Bobby).

Kentucky State Fair

Today we went to the annual Kentucky State Fair with my parents. This is a big Shields family tradition and it was sooo much fun! We went to all the indoor exhibits, ate awesome fair food, and saw all the farm animals. My dad's favorite thing to do each year is to take the grandkids to see the cows. We have pictures from 5 years ago of James and my dad looking at the cows, so it was neat to get some pictures of him showing the cows to Greenlee for the first time. She also got to pet a bunny. Greenlee loved every minute and was on her most perfect behavior-- she even took a nap in her stroller, which never happens!

2 year Anniversary in Florida

Posted by: Jenna

July 31st was our second wedding anniversary-- it's so hard to believe it's been 2 years already! We ended up in Orlando for a last minute vacation and it couldn't have worked out any better! We spent the night at the Hyatt while my parents watched Greenlee at their condo. We went to Ruth Chris for dinner and then Blue Man Group at Universal. We had such a great time! It was the first time Greenlee ever spent the night without us and it went so well! Everyone survived! We were thankful to have some uninterrupted alone time-- it was ALMOST like before we had Greenlee, except we talked about her a lot :) I'm so thankful to be Josiah's wife-- he is such an amazing husband and father. I couldn't have asked for a better man to spend my life with-- love you babe! More pics to come from our trip to Florida....

10 Months

Miss Greenlee turned 10 months on August 5th. Here is what has been going on with her this past month:

-- On July 25th she sprouted her first tooth! A few days later, tooth #2 broke through!
-- She is cruising on furniture, walls, people-- you name it.
-- Stood by herself yesterday without holding on to anything for support.
-- loves to clap her hands and mimic things that we do. Her current favorite thing to mimic is the Indian Call where she says "ahhhhhhh" and pats her mouth with her hand at the same time.
-- she finally ditched dragging herself everywhere for the full-blown coordinated crawl. I honestly didn't think she would abandon her signature one-legged drag, but she did.
-- walks steadily while we hold her hands
-- realized shortly after my 9 month post that she can indeed pull up on her crib rails, so we've lowered the crib for a 2nd time.
-- Not only changes the channel with the remote, but magically found us some new channels on our TV.
-- Gives "hugs" and waves "hi" and "bye"
-- Tries to steal whatever snack mommy and daddy might be munching on
-- Started whole milk this month. She randomly stopped liking her formula so I just gave up trying to force her to drink it and started with whole milk. She isn't crazy about it but she drinks it. It's funny because she likes water more than anything else. She'll drink an entire sippy cup of water with no problem!
-- We are down to 2 or 3 bottles a day now, which is fabulous for mommy and daddy. She prefers to drink from her sippy cup but she won't drink as much as she needs if we go that route so we're sticking to bottles for the next 2 months.
-- Added to her vocabulary with "Ba Ba." I've also heard her make the "mmmhh" and "geee" sound but she doesn't do it on a consistent basis.
-- Signs "all done"
-- 2 naps a day: 11-12:30, and 3:30 to 5:30. Bedtime is 8:30-9. Waketime is 8:30am.
-- Favorite foods: baby goldfish, cheerios, yogurt, and graham crackers
-- Weighs 22 lbs, 30+ inches tall, 12 months clothes, size 3 diapers, size 4 shoe.

Greenlee with her cousin Lilly Claire, who is 2 years old

Today is Greenlee's 9 month birthday. She weighs 21 lbs and is 30 inches tall. According to the doctor, she is off the charts for weight, height, and head circumference. Here are some of the things she has been up to this month:

-- pulling up on things (but she still has no idea she can pull up on her crib rails-- thank you Lord!)
-- taking steps when we hold her hands.
-- still doing the half crawl/drag thing after a whole month of being on the move. Since she gets around anywhere she wants to go with her drag/crawl we don't think she'll ever do the normal coordinated crawl. I think she will go straight to walking.
-- She loves to do planks and headstands all day long
-- Today she drank out of a straw for the first time.
-- signs "more" and "water"...we are working on "all done", "mama", and "dada"
-- eating finger foods...she is getting really good at feeding herself puffs, cheerios, etc.
-- after a week of vacation she reverted back to 3 naps per day...so we are still working on getting her back to her old nap routine
-- getting better at not waking up at night (we started letting her cry herself back to sleep when she wakes up at night and it has helped tremendously)
-- she can put her paci back in her mouth...YAY! this was huge for us. now we know we don't need to run upstairs in the middle of the night or during a nap to put her paci back in when she loses it. as long as she can find it she can get it in. i've waited for this day for a VERY long time!
-- talking up a storm and socializing. she babbles constantly and makes verbal expressions with just about everything she does throughout the day. she also LOVES other kids. she is so aware of other babies and children and wants to be right up in their space touching them and talking to them.
-- size 3 diapers, size 12-18 month clothes, size 3-4 shoe
